Sir John A. Macdonald was the first Prime Minister of Canada. He
was one of the 34 fathers of Confederation and brought the Dominion of Canada
to meet in the conferences in 1864 to make plans to unite the provinces. They
made decisions to set up the government system and legal system. When Canada
became a country he was appointed as the first Prime Minister. He was the Prime
Minister of Canada from 1867 to 1891 and then again between 1878 and 1891 until
he died on 6 June 1891.
